DESSERT AND HISTORY TOUR

In downtown Batavia at Routes 5 and 98, stop in at Oliver's Candies Chocolate Factory and Gift Shop, which offers the largest selection of award-winning chocolates in Western New York. Oliver's produces 30 tons of chocolate bunnies at Easter and over 3 million individual pieces of candy each year!

Depart Oliver's and cross over Route 98 on Route 5 to the Holland Land Office Museum, a wonderful historical spot. Erected in 1815, it is the birthplace of Western New York where the 3 million acres of Western New York were surveyed and sold. The museum features a wonderful collection of Genesee County and Western New York artifacts including gallows, fine textiles, maps and Civil War materials.

Depart for LeRoy House Museum and the Jell-OĈ Gallery located on Route 5 in the Village of LeRoy. Jell-OĈ, one of America's favorite "fun" desserts, was invented right here in LeRoy, New York. Tour this fascinating historical museum, view the unique collection, and take an interactive walk through 100 years in the history of Jell-OĈ.

Depart from the Jell-OĈ Gallery and dine at one of the fine restaurants in the picturesque Village of LeRoy. Head east on Route 5 and turn left on Circular Hill Road. Turn right on Gulf Road, which turns into Flint Hill Road. Tour through Genesee Country Village and Museum, a recreated 19th century village with 57 restored homes and village buildings, as well as tour guides in period clothing. Visit their fantastic art gallery with wildlife and African big game exhibits.

Depart Genesee Country Village and Museum and head west on Route 5 to Batavia. For a home away from home, check in at one of our many comfortable and affordable hotels.

Enjoy dinner and a night at the races at Batavia Downs Race Track and Exhibition Center, the oldest pari-mutuel nighttime harness track in North America. It features an elegant enclosed clubhouse and open-air grandstand offering you an excellent view of the live racing (August 5 - November 30). Simulcasting continues year-round in the Niatross Room. Return to your hotel for the evening.

Optional activities include taking in a Batavia Muckdogs Baseball Game, the farm club of the Philadelphia Phillies ("A" ball) at Dwyer Stadium; or go-karting excitement at Gravel Pit Family Entertainment Center.
